This bowl was turned from a single piece of lightweight hardwood. It is 15 1/2” across to the edges of the handles and 11 3/4” from outside edge or outside edge without the handles. It is a little over 4” deep on the inside.
When looking at the grain I was surprised to realize the was not turned from a blank cut from the end of a log. That would make all sorts of end grain that would be hard to finish, absorb liquids quickly, and not have much strength. This bowl was cut from a thick plank so the grain goes from handle to handle.
None of the worm holes go all the way though and I have no idea if they came before or after the bowl was turned.
I imagine it was used to mix dry ingredients because I think it would have soaked up liquids from a batter or other wet food.
